CASE STUDIES - NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING

J ( Male aged 33)

J attended for 6 sessions to enable him to cope with problems of confidence. He knew this caused him to drink more heavily. Exploring issues in his past enabled J to understand his current behaviours, and using NLP techniques J was able to focus on how he wanted to be in the future. This enabled him to reduce his drinking and improve his confidence.

G (Female aged 60)

G had suffered from depression on and off for several years. She managed these episodes well with some therapy and anti depressants. She was becoming increasingly troubled with guilt and sorrow surrounding the circumstances of the birth of her first child. Despite realising that this was an event that happened a long time ago, and had not affected her child, she found it hard to shake it out of her mind.

Using the "Swish" technique after two sessions G found that she was able to focus on happier times with her daughter, and was not troubled by the previous issue. She then used the swish technique to help her reframe other incidents in her life.

B (Male aged 36)

B had suffered from low self esteem for several years. This was affecting his relationships at home and at work. B was encouraged to explore his beliefs and values using an exploration technique called Neuro Logical Levels and shifting his perceptions about events using perceptual positions.

This gave him some insights into where he wanted to make changes to his life, and importantly the positive and negative impact this could have on those around him.

B changed his job, enrolled on a part time college course to retrain for a new career, and found his home life became more purposeful and contented.

K (Female aged 18)

K suffered depression, which had led to self harming. She felt that she was unable to express her feelings. After some sessions of counselling K indicated that she was drinking heavily when out with her friends, as this was the only way she could relax.

Using an NLP technique of Miracle questions and perceptual positions K explored how she would feel, given all her negative beliefs were removed, with her friends. K discovered that she be relaxed and confident, and would not need a drink. As she explored this, she identified one action step she could take currently which would help her move towards this situation.

At the next session K reported with much surprise, that she had gone out with her friends and not needed to drink very much, and she had still enjoyed herself.
