COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, a highly effective therapy is based on how our thoughts, beliefs and ideas affect the way we feel and see the world, and therefore act towards others and ourselves in daily life.

CBT works by helping you identify unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns, and replacing these with more helpful thoughts and behaviours.

Is it for you?

CBT is recognised by the NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) guidelines and within the NHS as being helpful for people who are experiencing:

  • Depression and low mood
  • Anxiety and Panic
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Difficulties with relationships
  • Unwanted patterns of behaviour

How counselling works

Our sessions provide support to help you make lasting changes to your life. As a CBT therapist I will work with you to identify your outcomes for the counselling. You will be given tasks to complete between sessions to help you see how you are progressing. For example, making short notes, keeping a diary, reading or trying new ways of doing things and recording the results.

A counselling relationship is different from talking to friends or your partner or spouse. It gives you a neutral person to talk you, and a safe place to explore your feelings and create a picture of how things could be for you in the future.
